I have always thought that an apron is an essential companion for a busy, creative life, and this is the one I reach for every single day.
This particular apron feels even more special now, as it carries a little piece of Eileen with it.
For so many happy years, Eileen the Goose was part of life here at The Last Homely House, pottering about the garden with her quiet determination and unmistakable presence. And now, as she begins her new chapter at Brad's farm, it feels only right to celebrate her properly.
To mark her time here, I asked my daughter Martha to draw our dear Eileen, along with the words “The Last Homely House”. With the help of a wonderfully patient embroidery company, we worked carefully on the design until it felt just right. The result is something I truly treasure, and I hope you will too.
The apron itself is made from strong, practical denim, designed to be worn and lived in. It has extra long straps that tie comfortably at the front, big deep pockets for all the bits and pieces that gather through the day, and an adjustable neck strap for a perfect fit.
Mine has been through the wash many times and still looks as good as new, ready for whatever the day brings.
This is, in many ways, a small celebration of Eileen and her many years here. A little reminder of muddy boots, garden paths, and the gentle rhythm of home.
